While this grape (full name: Melon de Bourgogne) is originally from Burgundy, France, it has been wildly popular on the west coast of the country, in the Loire Valley, specifically, Muscadet. In that area of the world this grape makes simple, but delicious wine, but a few people in Oregon are finding great success, like with this gem, producing wines with a little more going on!
Aged in a large, egg-shaped concrete vessel, which gives this light-bodied white a clean, fresh liveliness, and purity of fruit, but it also adds a cool complexity that we just love! The wine also has a nice salinity that makes it the most perfect wine with fresh oysters and lighter seafood dishes! A dry, single-vineyard, small-production (90 cs), crave-worthy white!

Winery Description
-
It may already be clear to you, but we love to support small, women-owned and -run wineries that make great wines! Well, Helioterra, in our minds, is the quintessential business that fits the bill!!
Owner and winemaker, Anne Hubatch, grew up in Sheboygan, Michigan, and moved to Portland, Oregon after finishing her degree in Geology and Environmental Studies.
Anne gained an interest in working with the land through her studies, and coupled with her love of wine, it makes sense that she went headlong into a career in winemaking, working alongside some of Oregon’s best winemakers for about ten years!
She founded Helioterra Wines, the name of which was inspired by the Oregon state gem, Heliolite, and the Latin word for earth (terra), in 2009 with her first solo vintage, and has been rockin’ it ever since!
Anne is very proud of her winemaking style, which leans toward a more feminine sensibility, which results--in our opinion--in wines with silk-like texture and flavors that don’t hit you over the head. This lady is about as serious about her wines as winemakers get, and she’s a badass, but she loves to have a good time, and never takes herself too seriously!
You go, Girl!
